Kitten mittens, and the stories that surrounded me today

Introduction

Mittens. I never knew they'd be such a pleasure to knit. I love Elizabeth Zimmerman. She's a Godsend! her patterns for these lovely mitred mittens (pronounced, mitt-erd) are the perfect combination of cuteness and elegance rolled into one. And boy are they quick! I Kidd you not, I cast on this baby yesterday and finished it today! I could whip these babies out like a factory!

Second period
Second period is almost 1/2 way through the day, since I have only 4 periods, each 90 min. long. this period held a lot of knitting for me, because it involved general, fun questions to the class, and a movie that we hardly had to take notes on. Plus, the light was great, so I had to take as many as possible. This is the progress I'd made since last night:

Lunchtime conspiracy
During lunchtime, or rather, after I'd eaten my fish soup (fish because it's Lent, and it's Friday), I went into the LYM, (lasallian youth ministry) to knit. I took a few pics, before being tricked out of my poor, just-finished body of my mitten, by one of my best friends, Ona Lisa. She tried to hide from me, but I took a photo of evidence anyway.

She then explained that the mitten was not in her right hand, or even close to her arm, because it'd been cut off in WWI. (in the previous pic, you can't see it, but her right arm is hiding the mitten behind her back against the couch.) When I tried to get Brian to help, he was willing to pummel her with an umbrella, until he found out her arm was lost in WWI, after which he gave me his, "I-can't-believe-you-think-this-poor-gel-who-lost-her-arm-in-WWI-took-your-mitten" look.

I managed to take this pic either before or after I got my lovely kitten mitten body back.

Third period thumb and fire alarm
The fire alarm went off today. Again. Third time this semester! What's wrong with those freshmen?? Are they insane? Or maybe it was those dratted Sophomores! They always seem to be up to something! Juniors are way too busy to be pulling stunts like that, and we, the angelic seniors, would never dream up something like that. (But boy do we ever wish we had!) Anyway, whilst we were all trying to get organized, I took these two pictures, just to have something to share.

And I also knit the thumb of my kitten mitten.

Seniors were quite mad with whoever did it. What, we have to stand out in the cold and the rain? and wait for the stupid fire department to get here? of all the-- what? It's a real drill? It was planned? You mean we don't get to see the shiny red Firetruck racing down Lombard, stopping traffic? Aw, nuts!

Last period finishing.
The last period was one of the best, because we only had a short little, itty-bitty quiz, and I swear, it was so easy, that when we were reviewing, I was only doing every other problem on our table-board, and knitting and finishing like a maniac! Here's the end results, including me in one of them, courtesy of Neale, an old calculus student and current pre-cal teacher aid:

Cute, no? So, that's all that happened today. I cast on my second kitten mitten. By the time spring break is over, I'll have the other mitten, the hat, and maybe even a scarf to show for it!

The mittens are really pretty! And I feel as though I spent the day at your school; your pictures really captured the feel of it all. Keep up the good knitting! :-)
